The weather people are forcasting snow in Philly tonight. They said that earlier this week and we got about an inch. We'll see what comes tonight.
I would love some snow. If it's going to be this cold out, it could at least be pretty and snowy (I'm freezing, by the way). Ordinarily, I'd be wishing for a foot or so of snow, the kind of storm that lets you stay at home in pjs all day, watching White Christmas, drinking coffee, and knitting. Tomorrow, though, is a day we've been waiting for.
We have every reason to believe that tomorrow, our friend Kelly will become Kelly McC, PhD. I took the day off so that I can go to the presentation and hang out with her friends and family while she goes behind the closed doors of the defense. We met Kelly in her first year of grad school (mine too although we were studying different things at different schools). She did a rotation in Michelle's lab and against Michelle's best advice, decided to stay there for her thesis research. Silly girl.
Now, five and a half years later, she's getting ready to defend. I'm so happy for her.
Me and Kelly, May 2004
Even if we are covered with buckets of snow, I hope Kelly's committee members can all make it so that she can put this thing to bed. Wish her luck!
This will be the third doctoral thesis presentation I've attended (Michelle and Michael were the brilliant first two) and I can't tell you how exciting it is to see someone celebrate this accomplishment.
Knitting:
Jaywalker #2 is coming along. I've got about 3-4 inches of cuff completed. Can't wait to wear these babies!
I feel like a single project knitter right now, even though I have a few scarves that have been hanging out on the needles and a gift for Michael and Suz's baby that is 2/3 complete. All of those things are just sitting in my basket while I knit on the Jaywalker. What is it about socks that captivates us so?

Congrats to Kelly! It's cold everywhere, it seems. As long as the sun shines I can handle the cold. Stay warm;-)

After the shoveling of the driveway, I totally am planning on watching White Christmas with a cup of tea and some Christmas stitching! It's so funny how similar we are. Rob had to go to work, though, so I'll be on my own.
